Assam is bestowed upon with many jewels. The presence of enormous water resources and very less industries has made the region a hub for bio-diversity, boasting of four national parks and numerous wildlife sanctuaries. The fertile ground has also made Assam a hub for tea production, where more than 800 tea estates provide the state with a breathtaking landscape of miles and miles of tea gardens; till as far as the eye can see, and also provides for clean and unpolluted air.

But it is not only the natural beauty, but also the presence of an elegant and elaborate culture, that makes Assam such a unique destination. This culture is deeply rooted in history, to medieval days, when the mighty Ahom Dynasty ruled the region for more than six hundred years. It is during their regime, that Assam saw a kind of cultural renaissance; in areas of arts, religion, literature, music, drama and philosophy. Ruins of this glorious past is still scattered around Assam, and Ahom traditions have deeply influenced the modern-day cultures.

In this tour, you will get a chance to stay in a century old heritage tea bungalow surrounded amidst tea gardens. You will be visiting medieval ruins of the Ahom Kingdom, and visit Majuli, which is the largest inhabited river island in the world and also a hotbed for Assamese culture. Lastly, you will visit Kaziranga, a World Heritage Site and one of the best National Park of India; home to tigers and thousands of Rhinos.

Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at Dibrugarh Airport. Dibrugarh is called the tea city of India and has the largest tea producing estates. Overnight will be at Mancotta tea bungalow; 136 years old and set amidst lush green tea gardens. Afternoon and evening free to relax and take in the sweet aroma of tea.

Day 2

After breakfast, embark on a tea tour, and taste the many different and excellent varieties of tea. Leave for Shivsagar (2 hours); the capital of the Ahom dynasty that ruled Assam for about 600 years. See the many ancient monuments and ruins of this great empire. Leave for Johrat (1 hours). Overnight at a old heritage tea bungalow.

Day 3

After breakfast, leave for the island of Majuli (3 hours) situated in the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra River. The journey includes a photogenic 2 hour ferry ride. Check-in to a traditional Missing hut made of bamboo and run by a very loving family. Afternoon and evening free to relax and unwind. Spend time absorbing the experience that is Majuli.

Day 4

After breakfast leave for a sightseeing tour of the many Satras (neo-Vaisnavite monasteries) present in the island. Contemplate their philosophies and understand their urgency of love. Learn about their distinct forms of art, music, theatre, mask making etc. Return for lunch. Afternoon will be free to explore the island. Evening enjoy the local brew and the local cultural show organized by the Missing people.

Day 5

After breakfast enjoy a slow bicycle ride around the village and after a delicious lunch, head out to Kaziranga National Park (4 1/2 hours), one of the best kept national parks of India. Overnight at eco friendly cottages or heritage bungalow. Evening will be free to unwind.

Day 6

Early morning elephant safari. Encounter the famous one horned Rhino and many other species of animals such as the Tiger, Deer etc. Return for breakfast. Mid day free to roam around the surrounding tea gardens and visit the Karbi villages located near the park. Afternoon jeep safari will do wonders for the wildlife enthusiasts. Evening optional bonfire.

Day 7

Have a late breakfast. Feel free to stroll around town. Afternoon, you leave for a jeep safari through route 3. Evening, enjoy a folk dance show organized by the Assamese community. Have a traditional dinner.

Day 8

After breakfast leave for Guwahati Airport (5 hours) for a flight back home.
