BIRDING IN NAMERI NATIONAL PARK

Nameri National Park is the most scenic wildlife reserve in the state of Assam. Located next to eastern Himalayan foothills and to the Jia Bhoroli River, Nameri is great place to escape. The park is a delight for birders. A stay here is a colorful experience, with colorful birds flying here and there everywhere. This national park is one of the thickest as well as the most threatened reservoirs of flora and fauna in the world, and is also known for having some of the world’s best plant functional type and complexity. These deciduous forests of the park are a mixture of tropical and semi-evergreen forests accompanied by cane and bamboo expanses.
The wildlife reserve is home to a few mammal species, though seeing them is difficult. You may come across elephants, gaurs, bisons, deers, monkeys and occasional tiger.It is the bird diversity of the park which is spectacular, consisting of over 400 species of rare and common birds, among which, the most important names are the White-winged Ducks and the Horned Lark. Some other species of birds found in the area include White-cheeked Partridge, Wreathed, Rufous-necked Hornbills, Blue-eared, Pallas's, Lesser Fish Eagles, Oriental Dwarf Kingfishers, Oriental Hobby, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Long-billed Plover, Yellow-bellied Flowerpecker, Jerdon's Babbler, Rufous-backed Sibia, and many others.

Arrive at Guwahati Airport or Tezpur Airport and drive to Nameri National Park (6hrs/5hrs). Evening free at leisure. Overnight in cottages or leisure tents.
Go for an early morning nature walk to the interiors of Nameri, escorted by a naturalist and forest guard. Later in the day, go rafting in the Jia-Bhoroli River. Other times at leisure or you may go birdwatching.
Go for a early morning nature walk to interior of the national park. Later in the day, visit tribal villages and tea plantations. Go birdwatching in the forests around the camp. Bonfire and traditional dances can be arranged for the evening.
Drive to Guwahati Airport (6 hours) or Tezpur Airport (1 hour) for a flight back home . Tour ends.
