Located high up in the mountain ranges of the Himalayas, at 3500 meters above sea level, is the holy town of Tawang - the land of the Monpas; a tribe that has a culture which is a mix between indigenous beliefs and Mahayana Buddhism.
Having many names, such as The Hidden Paradise and Land Of Snowy Mountains; the region offers breathtaking mountain landscapes, tribal villages, treasures of many rare orchid species, numerous magical Gompas, serene lakes and many other mysteries.
But more than anything else, it is the presence of that purity that only Buddhism offers. Numerous holy monasteries make this region a sacred environment. The second largest Buddhist monastery of the world, the Galden Namgey Lhatse Monastery (translated as ‘celestial paradise in a clear night.’), is situated right at the heart of Tawang town, dominates and enlightens the entire landscape with an aura of spirituality.
- Adventurous nature walk at Nameri National Park.

Drive from Tezpur to Nameri National Park (1 hours), an amazing place bestowed with nature. Halt at beautiful jungle cottages.
Go for an early morning nature walk to witness the amazing birds and animals of the forest. After breakfast, leave for Dirang (8 hours), a town located at a picturesque valley. En-route visit Tipi Orchid Center that has an amazing diversity of orchid species. Night halt at a clean and comfortable Hotel.
Drive from Dirang to Tawang (7 hours). En-route visit a yak research center, hot water springs, and apple farms at Dirang. On the way, you will have to cross the snow-capped Sela Pass which is at an height of 14,000ft, and the Jung Waterfall. Night halt at a comfortable and clean hotel.
Today, a whole day will be spent on visiting many holy lakes, bunkers and meditation centre. Return to town by evening.
After early breakfast, you will be visiting the many significant monasteries near to the town, and also local sightseeing.
For a day trip, drive to Zemithang (90 kms), an interesting and scenic village of the Monpa tribe (who are Buddhists), located very near to the border with China. Return to Tawang by sunset.
Drive from Tawang to Bomdila (7 hours), a scenic town which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding sno-clad mountains. Night halt at a clean and comfortable hotel.
Local sightseeing of Bomdila. Visit monastery and crafts center.
Drive from Bomdila to Tezpur (8 hours). Night-halt at clean and comfortable hotel.
Tour Ends. Departure from Tezpur Airport.
